First Year of College (1981-1982)

In the Spring of 1981, during my senior year in high school, I sent some film of me playing football to Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, and to the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) in Roswell. That resulted in me receiving scholarship offers. I, also, sang an Italian song for the music professors at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, which resulted in me receiving a scholarship offer.

During the Summer of 1981, while I was helping my father run his traveling summer camp, I was still feeling pain from a knee injury, so I took the music scholarship. I moved to Portales, and started studying music in the Fall of 1981. About 7 weeks into the semester, I caught the flu. It was impossible for me to keep up with my music courses. So I withdrew from all my courses, and moved back home to Roswell where I started taking courses at the Southwest Business College.

Then, I started taking courses for basic college requirements at Eastern New Mexico University - Roswell Campus in the Spring of 1982. I, also, worked out everyday with the NMMI junior college football team with a plan of using a football scholarship to start attending NMMI in the Fall of 1982.
