I Started Learning How to Play Musical Instruments

by Frank McKinnon

I was 8 years old in 1970. Anthonyโ€™s Clothing Store had a drum set on display. I talked my father into buying it for me, and I started learning how to play it.

My father taught me how to play the blues on the guitar when I was about 9 years old. He, also, taught me to learn how to play a few more guitar chords.

When I was 10 years old, an eleven year old kid, named Dana Bennett, taught me how to play chords on the piano. Dana, also, taught me how to make up lyrics to songs while I played chords on a piano or a guitar.

Then, I was singing while I was playing the drums, or playing the piano, or playing the guitar anytime I was not attending class in school or participating in practice and events of after-school sports. Eventually, I, also, started learning how to play the bass guitar and the violin.
